History was made yesterday the 29th day of September 2020 as the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Chief Emeka George Ikwuagwu broke yet another jinx of being the first sitting Commissioner to pay official visit to the prestigious Aba Sports Club (1926).
Receiving the Honourable Commissioner at the Club, the 65th President of the Club Chief Jerry O. Kalu (Osimiri)flanked by some prominent members of the Club which included Mazi A.E. Ukonu of the famous Ukonu’s Club, HRH Eze Nzenwata Mbakwe, Chief Johnbosco Okeiche,the Captain of Golf-Sir Jonathan Oguejiofor,Sir Kalu Nnanna Kalu,Dr. Ihekwazu among others ,thanked the Hon. Commissioner and his entourage for the visit emphasising that he has indeed set a record of being the first sitting Commissioner to visit the Club. He later conducted the Commissioner round ongoing and already completed projects in the Club premises and also prayed for the success of the Commissioner in Office.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner expressed happiness with the immense contributions of the Club to the development of Sports in Abia State and solicited for more synergy between the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and Aba Sports Club especially in the area of Grassroots Sports Development. He further requested for sponsorship of the Club in the forth coming Abia State U- 21 Female Football Competition already approved by the State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (PhD).
In the Commissioners entourage were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Friday Ikpeoha, the State Director of Sports Sir Isaac O Isaac and Tosman, a Sports Consultant.
Highlight of the occasion was when the Hon. Commissioner played Snooker at the Bullard/Snooker Hall.
