Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured the people of Umuokpara in Umuahia South LGA of his resolve to complete the Umuokpara Ring Road project as it is ecomically strategic to the State.

The Governor gave the assurance while inspecting the Umuokpara Ring Road to ascertain the progress of work there as part of his Kinetic Abia project inspection and commissioning tour launched in August.

He commended the contractor handling the road for sticking to the contract specifications, noting that the road is up to standard. He promised that the government will continue to make funds available for the project to run smoothly.

The Governor also charged the contractor, Worldwide Environmental Technologies Limited, to remain focused in order to deliver a good job and within the agreed time.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr Chris Ezem thanked the Governor for his commitment to finish the job as well as for extending the dualization of Afọr Ibeji end of the Aba Road, Umuahia, to Ubakala Junction and pleaded with him to make it ready for use by people coming home for the Yuletide.

Also speaking, the member representing Umuahia South Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Jerry Uzosike noted that the construction of the ringroad which leads to Umunwanwa and Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North LGA is a dream come true for the people of the area who have waited for successive administrations since 1999 to fulfill the promise made to the people of the area.

Hon Uzosike thanked the Governor for reviewing the project to bring it up to the high standard his administration is known for and appealed to him to continue to fund the contractor as the people look forward to the early completion of the project.

Leading the Governor through the site, the representative of the company handling the project, Chief Akọ Obioma, disclosed that the ring road which commences from Amachara is designed to take off pressure from the Abia Tower axis and deliver traffic to Ubakala Junction area pointing out that when completed, it will help decongest traffic at Amachara, Nkwoegwu, Ehime-Mbano and up to Aba Road. He further stated that the project has a stone-base core with twin culvert and drainage to aid the proper channeling of water from Imo River and neighboring areas.
