The Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Sir Johnson Onuigbo has disclosed that a Committee has been set to review and write a report on the just concluded PDP State Executive Local Government Assessment Tour.

Interacting with Newsmen in Umuahia, Chief Onuigbo said the report of the Committee will determine the local government Chairmen to be rewarded, pointing out that he was not in a position to disclose the Chairman/Chairmen that did well in their respective Councils in order to be rewarded as the most hardworking LG Chairmen, which he believe will boost their morale.

He said the essence of the Tour was to ensure that the December 23, 2016 elected Chairmen (all PDP) do their best to drive home the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s agenda in the local government areas for sustainable dividends of democracy to the electorate.

He also disclosed that the Tour was to assess the activities of the elected 17 LGA Chairmen with a view to ascertaining challenges, if any and encourage the Principals of the local government areas.

He further disclosed that the tour was not only designed to inspect projects but to see how the party people are faring and to recruit new members, as seen in the multitude of decampees the party welcomed during the tour.

Onuigbo expressed optimism that Gov. Ikpeazu will be happy and grateful after the committee had written their report, as most of the projects embarked upon by the Chairmen were people oriented.

He said, “the mass turn out of people willing to receive us during the tour means that they are happy with their various Chairmen. If they had failed to deliver dividends of democracy to the grassroots, nobody will come out.
“Our governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in his wisdom knows that the local government belongs to the rural people, he decided to conduct the December 23, 2016 local government election after 8 years.

“This was to ensure that the grassroots feel the impact of dividends of democracy. So the Party Executive embarked on the assessment tour to see the impact created by the elected Chairmen on their people. We observed that most of the Chairmen provided things that touched the lives of their people”.

He said, “the tour opened our eyes to see that the PDP is comfortable in all the 17 local government areas and Nigerians and Abia electorate love the PDP.

He reassured party members especially the Aspirants that the forthcoming party primaries will involve all the aspirants so that the electorate will comfortably pick their choice candidates.

“PDP has always being democratic in their style and in my leadership we have made it a policy that we will right the wrongs which we witnessed in the past. We will give every aspirant a level playing ground because we now know the dangers of imposition. This time we will choose the most credible and popular candidates, that is our policy. This time we will have that record of transparency”, Onuigbo assured.
